16the annual Runnin’ for the House goes virtual!

Las Vegas, NV, April 21, 2020– Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of Greater Las Vegas hosted our 16th Annual Runnin’ for the House 5K Run & Fun Walk on Saturday, April 18th. Due to recent concerns surrounding the COVID-19 situation, the 2020 event was held virtually for the first time!

Twenty-five teams and more than 750 participants completed the 5K run or one mile walk wherever and whenever they wanted this past weekend. We received word of people rocking the socks in nearly every corner of the Las Vegas valley, and we even had folks complete the event in Canada, North Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois! Participants posted their run videos and pictures all weekend long in a virtual Facebook group page and on social media using the hashtag #RockTheSocks. And Ronald McDonald even made a special guest appearance in a few videos created to cheer on the participants from afar.

“We really didn’t know what to expect when we had to make the tough decision to transition the Run to a virtual event,” said Alyson McCarthy, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities ® of Greater Las Vegas. “But the level of enthusiasm, participation and financial support ended up being more than we ever dreamed possible!”

RMHC® raised more than $81,000 from the virtual event. Sponsors of the event include McDonald’s, Lexus of Las Vegas, The Cosmopolitan, UFC, NV Energy, Clark County Credit Union, Johnstone Supply, Willow Springs Dental, 93.1 The Mountain and Real 103.9 with iHeartMedia. Funds raised from this event stay locally to benefit RMHC® and our mission of providing a “home-away-from-home” for families that travel to Las Vegas for their children to receive critical medical care.
